Dubai – 13 February 2011: The Dubai British School Year 13 Applied Business students have taken on the role of becoming an event management team by creating a school talent charity event at Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre (DUCTAC) to raise great funds and support the development of the Dubai Autism Centre.

Students have been auditioning for the event over the last 2 months and we have chosen the 10 acts that performed on the evening, ranging from dancing, acting, singing, and bands. In addition there was two staff ‘Acts’ which was enjoyed. Several prizes for the contestants, including a day on a yacht, vouchers for the Mall.

The show was created to attract the whole school community as it is an event for students to be able to perform a variety of acts. Ticket sales only within the school community are being used to raise funds towards Dubai Autism Center along with donation support. Over 400: students, parents and teachers were gathered on the 8th February at the DUCTAC center point theater. Local sponsors include Turning Pointe dance and music studios and Art Marine yachts donated the main prizes for the show. All funds raised will be donated towards the Dubai Autism Centre to support the innovation of the new center being built.

Dubai Autism Center (DAC) is a non-pro?t organization. There is constant development throughout the organization to support the disorder; the students from Dubai British School feel it is an important need to increase the awareness of autism as they believe that all students deserve equal opportunities to learn in any learning environment by supporting the autistic children from one school community to another.

At the Dubai Autism Center alone, there is a 5 month waiting list for the assessment and diagnoses and 190 children on the waiting list for the school. The growing needs for these children has made it a requirement for DAC to construct a purpose built center that can accommodate a greater number of children. The work on the new building is advancing slowly due to the economic crisis and unavailability of financial aid which Dubai British School wishes to contribute to, to increase the production of the new center.
