Dubai Autism Centre hosts the international conference: Autism… what’s next?
Dubai – Nov 27th: Under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council and Chairman of Dubai Autism Centre, the Dubai Autism Centre, on its 10th anniversary 27 Nov, organized the international scientific conference: Autism… what’s next? The conference would have a benefit for the UAE autism centres, government organizations, directors of special needs centres, and the caregivers of children with autism in the various medical and educational fields; as well as parents and family members.
The conference was a full day event took place on November 27th at the Knowledge Village. It featured international renowned speakers in their respective fields. The keynote speakers represent top institutes from the US and the UK, who are leading the way in research, diagnosis, autism advocacy and intervention.
On his inaugural speech, Mr. Mohammad AL Emadi, Director General and board member of Dubai Autism Centre commented: “His Highness patronage to the conference emphasizes his interest in providing opportunities and his determination to enhance the level of educational and medical services offered to special needs in general and autism in particular, to be at par with Dubai development and growth.” Mr. Emadi also emphasized the importance of consistent training and pointed out that the conference would be a unique opportunity for specialists in the Arab world to build bridges and network with international institutions and experts.
The conference aimed at highlighting the international efforts of limiting the difficulties that can arise from growing up with autism, as well as the latest research and best practices, international early detection diagnosis methods, and the curriculum used in the rehabilitation of children with autism and the future of adults with autism.
During the conference, Dr. Charles Cartwright, Director of YAI Autism Center in New York, presented the latest developments in early intervention and diagnosis of Autism spectrum disorder. Next paper introduced by Dr. Jacqui Ashton Smith, Principal, Helen Allison School – Training Program Manager at the National Autistic Society in UK. Her paper highlighted the Importance of improving the quality of life of people with autism and their families by improving and maintaining quality standards within each service and thus also increasing the credibility of autism specific services.
The third paper was under the title: “The Autism Curriculum Encyclopedia®: A Web-based Prescription for Autism Education”. The paper introduced by Ms. Amy Atwell, BCBA, Consultant at New England Center for Children.
Mr. Richard Mills, Director of Research at the National Autistic Society in UK, presented his paper under the title: “where do we go to help children and adults with autism? What evidence is there for effective interventions?”
Then, Ms. Eileen Hopkins, Director of International Development at Autistica in UK, Ms. Hopkins highlighted the role of autism awareness both in the provision of services and societies view of people with ASD.
Growing with Autism and the Transition Stages was the title of the last paper which presented by Dr. Cyndy Hayes, Founder and Executive Director of Aging with Autism in US.
