
The Dubai Autism Center (DAC) has announced the adoption of a pioneering “dynamic approach” across its educational and rehabilitation services, becoming the first specialized institution in the Middle East to implement this advanced model.
This strategic shift underscores the Center’s vision to move beyond “formal accessibility”—which often limits support to standard physical facilities—toward “comprehensive adaptation.” Under this new framework, the educational environment functions as a living, responsive system that evolves based on a student’s sensory, behavioral, and emotional state. This ensures a safe and stimulating atmosphere that empowers students to reach their full potential.

Commenting on the transition, Mr. Mohammed Al Emadi, Director General and Board Member of the Dubai Autism Center, stated: “Adopting the Dynamic Approach reflects our strategic commitment to providing world-class services based on global best practices. We believe that empowering students with autism is not achieved through traditional, static services, but rather through a flexible educational ecosystem that adapts to their shifting needs. This initiative is a natural extension of our efforts to establish Dubai as a regional hub for the comprehensive rehabilitation of People of Determination.”
Al Emadi added: “The Center translates this approach into practice by designing a ‘living’ learning environment. We continuously adjust educational and behavioral plans, adapt classrooms to suit each student’s sensory sensitivities, and provide specialized facilities such as sensory integration rooms, life-skills training programs, and speech therapy sessions—all within educational spaces that encourage learning through interaction and play.”

Highlighting the clinical and technical aspects, Dr. Nicholas Orland, Chief Program Officer at the Dubai Autism Center, noted that the newly adopted model is supported by the latest evidence-based practices in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), stating:
“This approach integrates advanced ABA methodologies with flexible tools that allow us to design highly individualized interventions for each student. Our team has undergone extensive training to ensure the highest level of implementation fidelity and service quality.”
He further explained that the impact of this approach is reflected in the students’ progress in communication, independence, and social interaction. “By providing an environment that changes as their needs evolve, we enhance their self-confidence and enable them to better express their latent abilities,” he added.
Orland explained the following key features of the Dynamic Approach at the Center:
- Dynamic Sensory Regulation Rooms: Allowing for immediate adjustment of lighting and sound levels based on the child’s response.
- Flexible Classrooms: Designed to minimize distractions or increase interactive stimuli according to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Life Simulation Spaces: Aimed at developing daily independence and fostering flexible thinking to support effective community integration.
Expanding Reach and Integrated Services
The Dubai Autism Center currently serves 159 children with autism, with 97 students enrolled in the integrated school system and 62 children receiving specialized individual clinical services. The adoption of the Dynamic Approach is expected to significantly enhance learning outcomes and social integration for these students, providing them with the tools needed for long-term success in society.
